Mr. Samuel Yaw Apiiga was one of the 40 Pioneer students of UDS in 1993. He was the first student to report on campus on 30th September 1993 at the Tamale School of Hygiene near the Kamina barracks in Tamale. UDS has a lot of influence on my working and personal life due to the practical training during the Third Trimester Field Practical Training sessions. He was adjudged one of the best post graduate students due to experience and dedication to studies and research when pursuing his master programme in the University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast. Mr. Apiiga. Attended Navrongo Sec. School. Holds an MSc. in Animal Science from UCC, BSc. in Agriculture Technology (Animal Science Option) from UDS, Diploma in Agriculture Extension and Farm Management from KNUST, Post Graduate diploma in Sheep and Goats production from Japan, Post graduate certificate in Agriculture Administration from GIMPA and Post graduate Certificate in Guinea fowl production. He served as a subject matter specialist, regional animal production officer in the Upper East Region for 10 years, District Director for Agric. for 12 years and finally Regional Director of Agriculture for Western Region for two years. He is an Animal Scientist by profession and a Guinea fowl consultant.
He was the one who coined the word “developer” for Alumni of UDS and was very instrumental in the formation of the Alumni Association in his office at Bolgatanga together with the late Aduku Moses Akulog (a pioneering developer). He was one of the first UDS students to publish in the Daily Graphic with the cation “UDS is real”.
