• The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful, paid a courtesy call on the Management of the University for Development Studies, UDS, in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor on Monday, July 31, 2023, prior to an event commemorating the 2023 National Day of Girls in ICT.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan welcomed the Minister and her entourage made up of Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Alhassan Shaibu Shani, the Director of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council, Alhaji Issahaku Alhassan and management staff of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication GIFEC. Prof. Seidu Al-hassan spoke about some of the ICT challenges that confront UDS and appealed to the Minister to help to resolve them.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, having a flawless ICT infrastructure across all campuses will boost technological innovation and startups while encouraging students’ creative thinking.

The Minister of Communication and Digitalization and the Northern Regional Minister each received two custom-made laptop bags branded with the UDS logo.

Hon. Ursula Owusu, the Minister for Communication and Digitalization, thanked the management and staff of UDS for their dedication and support in promoting girls-child education.

She thanked the vice-Chancellor for giving her Ministry access to the Multipurpose Auditorium on the Tamale Campus to host the National Girls in ICT Day event for free. She tasked her team to collaborate with UDS in order to address some of the challenges that had been enumerated by the Vice-Chancellor.

Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful urged all staff of UDS to keep working hard in order to ensure that the University becomes the benchmark for excellence.

Others present at the meeting were the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof Felix Kofi Abagale, the Registrar, Mr. Nurudeen Issah Abubakar, the Director of Finance, Dr Mohammed Hardi Shaibu, the Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Abdulai Abukari, the Director of Works and Physical Development, Mr. Kwame Debrah and Dr. Linda Akirewe, the Deputy University Librarian.
