SPEECH READ BY KARIM YUSSIF WEIBADUA AT THE 12TH SRC HANDING OVER.
Mr. chairman, the registrar, the vice dean of students, the representative of the DOS, former SRC/ NUGS presidents present, ladies and gentlemen. It was just over a year ago I stood in front of the entire student body to give my inauguration speech. I was so excited to be sworn in as the NUGS president but immediately I was handed the microphone to speak, I begun to shiver; it was not because I had stage freight but the responsibilities of representing the students at the National front dawned on me. Ladies and gentlemen, I can boldly and proudly say that the 2021/2022 NUGS administration has done its best to fulfill its mandate.
Mr. chairman, I will quickly outline the activities and achievements of this administration. We introduced the first ever student brochure for the freshers. We introduced it as a means of information to the fresher since they are most vulnerable in the first week of their stay on campus. We had the privilege of hosting the first sustainability leadership conference in a tertiary institution.
Ladies and gentlemen, the north was cut off from the rest of the country when it comes to the activities of the National NUGS Secretariat. Our administration made it a point to change that narrative and we were able to host over 400 student leaders from all over the country on campus for the NUGS Central Committee Meeting; the first in over a decade. Aside the obvious benefit of selling out the University to other students, it created extra income for the local businesses especially the UDS Guest House on campus.
We also organized the first ever student Townhall Meeting to discuss the NUGS-SIC Campus Secure Insurance Policy and the Student Loan Policy.
Mr. Chairman as part of our mandate to connect students to gov’t agencies and to ease the stress students face in dealing with these Agencies; we had
a Ghana Card Registration, Birth Certificate and E-zwitch card registration of over 500 students which is not only relevant to the final years for their National Service but to the over 300 students we aided in securing the student loan facility to continue their tertiary education.
We had a successful second edition of the UDS-NUGS SDGs Summit focused on Goal 1; Reducing Poverty. The summit had students from other education institutions attending.
In the spirit of maintenance culture, this administration renovated the NUGS sign post across campus to enable students and visitors identify buildings and for direction purposes.
Ladies and gentlemen, we had a successful maiden NUGS Inter School/Faculty debate championship where the SAHS emerged champions. This debate saw all Schools and Faculties on campus participating, with Mr. Hayi Moomen being one of the Adjudicators.
Mr. chairman, I want to emphatically state that these achievements are not mine alone or that of the 2021/2022 administration but as a result of the support and guidance of the following but not limited to the vice DOS, DOS and the entire university administration, Deans of all Schools and Faculties, the SRC president, the WOCOM, all executives, all partners; SWIDA, NYA, and finally to the hardworking NUGS caucus.
Ladies and gentlemen, I will conclude by urging the incoming NUGS President and the NUGS Caucus to consider the following activities; an effective rollout of the NUGS-SIC campus secure insurance policy, the NUGS Sim Card Project and finally follow up with the UDS Alumni on the implementation of the NUGS Mentorship Clinic.
I am grateful to the Almighty God for HIS Grace and to the entire Student body for the privilege to serve.
Aluta Continua!
Victoria Ascerta!! Thank you!!

Karim Yussif
