• Prof. Ibrahim Osman Adam of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has been awarded a grant from the Google Award for Inclusion Research (AIR) program.

He is one of several global recipients and among the four to receive the Google Award for Inclusion Research (AIR) program grant worth $35,000 in Africa this year 2023. This grant will support his research project on ‘Integrating Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools in Ghanaian Higher Education for Advancing Computing Education.

Prof. Ibrahim Osman was recognised for his outstanding proposal and chosen to win this prize, along with other researchers worldwide, to advance the cause of computing education and inclusive, according to an official statement from Google. This came about via an extensive evaluation process that involved multiple Google engineering and research departments. Prof. Ibrahim Osman’s study on the digital gap and improving students’ digital literacy in Northern Ghanaian higher education will benefit greatly from this award. This was after a thorough review process involving several teams of Google engineers and researchers. This award will be instrumental in Prof. Ibrahim Osman’s research on the digital divide and enhancing digital skills among computing students in higher education in Northern Ghana.

brahim Osman is an Associate Professor of Information Systems in the Department of Business Analytics and Management Information Systems (BAMIS). He is also currently the Dean of the UDS School of Business. Over the years his research has focused on how to understand the nexuses in the ICT4D value chain (ICT readiness, access, use, impact) in different aspects of business and society. His expertise in the Information Systems discipline positions him as a distinguished figure and well-suited to spearhead this project.

Prof. Ibrahim Osman is excited to embark on this research journey, and he anticipates that the outcomes of this project will significantly contribute to narrowing the digital divide by enhancing the acquisition of digital skills and fostering inclusivity in the computing educational landscape.
