A delegation from the University for Development Studies, UDS, has called on the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Alhassan Shaibu Shani to commiserate with him on the passing of his uncle, the late Sunsong Naa Mahama Shani II.

The Director of the West Africa Center for Shea Innovation and Research (WACSIR -UDS), Prof. Alhassan Abubakar, who led the delegation made up of Mr. Abdul- Hayi Moomen and Mr. Ayuba Ibrahim, both of the Public Affairs Directorate, indicated that due to some official engagements, including preparations to receive the Speaker Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin to the University, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan, could not personally be present during the final funeral rites of the late Sunsong Naa at Sunsong on June 15, 2023. He conveyed the Vice-Chancellor’s condolences to the entire family and indigenes of Sunsong. He added that even though a fortnight had passed since the final funeral rites were held, the Vice-Chancellor still considered it necessary to send a delegation to personally meet with the Regional Minister due to the priority attention the Regional Minsiter pays to matters concerning the University.

Receiving the delegation, the Northern Regional Coordinating Director, Alhaji Alhassan Issahaku expressed immense appreciation to the University for honouring the memory of the late Sunsong Naa and for commiserating with the Northern Regional Minister.

The University donated a token to the Minister to aid in receiving guests who continue to call on him even after the final funeral rites of his uncle, the late Sunsong Naa.

Reacting to the visit, Alhaji Alhassan Shaibu Shani, the Northern Regional Minister was elated and expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan, for the kind gesture.

The late Sunsong Naa,Mahama Shani passed away on 31st March 2021.
